This set is the smallest tiered display of Mataro. Dolls can be stored in the vermilion-lacquered display stand. There are ten dolls in this set, the Emperor, Empress, Three court ladies and Five accompanists. The dog is painted on the display stand by raden technique and is called Inu-Hariko. It was a popular toy in the ancient era. The floral paper lanterns are battery-powered.
What is raden?
It is a design in mother-of-pearl inlay. The technique is to scrapes beautiful parts of shells and fit into board to decorate.
