What is the origin of the doll's festival?
The doll's festival started in mid-Heian period.
In those days there was a custom Called "Nagashi hina," which throw paper dolls into a river in order to exclude evils.
Also, among the ladies and children lived in the Heian court, it was popular to play with dolls and the playing called "Hiina Asobi."
Ancient Japanese literature, such as "the Tale of Genji" of Lady Murasaki and "the Pillow Book" of Seisho Nagon mentions about this playing.
Those customs and playing combined together and the doll's festival of today has formed.
Tools of the hina set are miniature of trousseaus.
Hina dolls are the substitutions of girls, and also they are charms for happy marriage.
